Install on Squarespace

Add the TalkingDot messenger to a Squarespace site with Code Injection. Paste your snippet into the site-wide Footer field and it loads on every page.

Before you start: copy your snippet from Settings → Install in your TalkingDot dashboard. It contains your workspace key and looks like this:

HTML
<script src="https://talkingdot.com/widget.js" data-key="YOUR_WORKSPACE_KEY" async></script>

Squarespace plan requirements

Code Injection is a premium Squarespace feature. Squarespace's help center lists it for the Core, Plus and Advanced plans and some legacy plans. It isn't included in the Basic plan. Plans change, so check Squarespace's "Using code injection" article to confirm what yours includes.

Plan without Code Injection? Link to your hosted chat page instead: https://talkingdot.com/chat/YOUR_WORKSPACE_KEY. Add it to a button or navigation link, for example "Chat with us", and it opens a full-page messenger.

Add the snippet to every page

  1. Open the Code Injection panel. On most sites it's under Website → Pages: scroll to the bottom of the Pages panel and open Custom code → Code injection. Some sites have it under Settings → Developer tools or Settings → Advanced instead.
  2. Paste your snippet into the Footer field. Squarespace injects footer code just before the closing </body> tag on every page. Leave the Header field alone.
  3. Click Save. The messenger now loads across your site.

Alternative: add it to individual pages

To show the messenger on only a few pages, such as Contact or Pricing, use page-level code injection instead of the Footer field:

  1. In the Pages panel, hover over the page and click its gear icon to open page settings.
  2. Open the Advanced tab and paste your snippet into Page Header Code Injection. That puts it in the page's <head>, which is fine because the script loads async.
  3. Save, then repeat for each page that should show the messenger.

You can also keep the site-wide Footer snippet and control where the launcher appears with the show/hide page rules in Settings → Messenger. That way you never have to touch Squarespace again.

Checkout and commerce pages

Squarespace doesn't run injected code on its checkout pages, so the messenger appears on your regular site pages but not during checkout.

Verify it works

  1. Open your live site in a private window, logged out of Squarespace. Custom scripts may be disabled inside the editor preview, so test on the live site.
  2. Look for the launcher bubble in the bottom-right corner, or on whichever side you chose in Settings → Messenger.
  3. Send a test message. It appears in your TalkingDot Inbox, and Settings → Install shows when the messenger was last seen on your site.

Troubleshooting

  • Can't find Code Injection: your plan probably doesn't include it. See plan requirements.
  • Site-wide password or lock screen: visitors only see the messenger after they get past the lock screen.
  • Domain allow-list: if you set one in Settings → Security, add your custom domain and your squarespace.com site address if you share it. The messenger stays hidden on domains that aren't listed.
  • Invalid key: the browser console shows TalkingDot: missing or invalid data-key. Copy the snippet again from Settings → Install.
  • Editor feels slow or misbehaves: injected scripts also run while you edit. If that gets in the way, Squarespace lets you disable scripts in preview. That doesn't affect your live site.
