Customer data from WHMCS & WordPress
Connect your own WHMCS or WordPress and every conversation shows who you are talking to: whether they are already a customer, what they bought, what they owe and their open tickets — next to the chat, without switching tabs.
What your team sees
When a visitor gives their email in chat (or is signed in on your site), the inbox shows a Customer card and the conversation list shows a Customer or Registered badge.
- WHMCS: client status and group, client since, amount paid so far, unpaid and overdue invoices, credit balance, services with their status and renewal date, domains with their expiry date, open tickets — each linking to the right page in your WHMCS admin. WHMCS 8 users who are not the account owner are shown by name, on the account they use.
- WordPress: whether the email has an account, its role and registration date. With WooCommerce: number of orders, total spent, last and average order, the five latest orders with their status, active subscriptions (WooCommerce Subscriptions) — and guest checkouts by billing email.
Typed or signed in? Anyone can type any email into a chat. The card says Matched by an email given in chat when that is how we found them — check it is really them before changing anything on their account. When they are signed in on your WHMCS client area or WordPress site, the module or plugin signs them and the card says Signed in on your site — identity verified.
Connect WHMCS
- Download the module. In TalkingDot open Settings → Integrations → WHMCS and click Download WHMCS module. It already contains your connection code.
- Upload it. Unzip it into your WHMCS folder (the one with
configuration.php). It addsmodules/addons/talkingdot. - Activate it. In WHMCS open Configuration → System Settings → Addon Modules, find TalkingDot Live Chat and click Activate. It connects by itself — the settings page in TalkingDot turns green.
- Choose what to share under Configure: services, domains, invoices, tickets, and whether to show the messenger in your client area (signed-in clients are recognised and verified automatically). Give your admin role access to the module to see its page under Addons, where you can look up an email to see exactly what is shared.
Works with WHMCS 7.10 to 9 on PHP 7.2 or newer. The module answers at https://your-whmcs/modules/addons/talkingdot/api.php — only requests signed with your code.
Connect WordPress
- Download the plugin. In TalkingDot open Settings → Integrations → WordPress & WooCommerce and click Download WordPress plugin. It contains your server address, workspace key and connection code.
- Install and activate it in Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin. It connects by itself on the next admin page and adds the messenger to your site.
- Already using the plugin? Install the new copy over it, or paste the connection code into Settings → TalkingDot. The code also fills in the server address, workspace key and identity verification secret.
The plugin answers at /wp-json/talkingdot/v1/lookup (or ?rest_route=… without pretty permalinks). It is compatible with WooCommerce's High-Performance Order Storage.
Privacy and security
- Only your team sees customer details. Nothing is shown to the visitor or given to the AI assistant.
- Signed both ways. Every request carries an HMAC-SHA256 signature made with your connection code, valid for five minutes. The module and plugin refuse anything else; we only accept announcements signed with the same code.
- HTTPS only. Your site must use HTTPS. We look people up when a teammate opens their conversation (or as soon as they give their email) and keep the answer for 10 minutes; the badge stays until the next lookup.
- You decide what is shared: in the WHMCS module settings, or with the WordPress filter below. Disconnecting removes everything we were told.
- New code: New connection code in the settings page stops the old one at once — use it if the code was shared by mistake.
Change what is shared (developers)
Both answers have the same shape: name, email, company, badge (customer, guest or registered), headline, status, url, note, up to 8 stats (label, value, tone) and up to 6 lists of up to 10 items (text, sub, tone, url). Tones are ok, warn, danger, info and muted.
<?php
// WordPress (a small plugin or your theme's functions.php): add LearnDash courses to the card.
add_filter( 'talkingdot_lookup_profile', function ( $profile, $email, $user ) {
if ( $user && function_exists( 'learndash_user_get_enrolled_courses' ) ) {
$courses = learndash_user_get_enrolled_courses( $user->ID );
$profile['stats'][] = array( 'label' => 'Courses', 'value' => (string) count( $courses ) );
}
return $profile;
}, 10, 3 );<?php
// WHMCS (includes/hooks/talkingdot_extra.php): flag clients on a payment plan.
add_hook('TalkingDotLookup', 1, function ($vars) {
$p = $vars['profile'];
$p['note'] = 'Account manager: Dana';
return ['profile' => $p];
});Troubleshooting
- "We cannot reach it" — your firewall, Cloudflare WAF rule or a security plugin blocks our requests to the lookup address. Allow POST requests to
/modules/addons/talkingdot/api.php(WHMCS) or/wp-json/talkingdot/v1/lookup(WordPress), then click Check connection. - "It refused our signature" — the module has an old code. Paste the current one from the settings page (it changes when you create a new code).
- "The signature does not match" when connecting — the code was cut short when pasting, or the server clock is more than five minutes off.
- No card for a visitor — they have not given an email yet. The card appears as soon as they do, or when they sign in on your site.
